For prompts such as “In a Dream…” the pause or space between words became a cadence in itself. This drawing suggests the effects of silence during the prompt. While the actual movement, seen lightly dashed beyond is fluid, the darker lines map the intensity of movement between lines in the prompt.

The audio clip seen here shows the flat line between and the corresponding frame, these frames were extracted as points from which the lines were drawn and words located.

  1. “Effects of silence”–nicely put–evocative title maybe. What I’m noticing that with the top piece (with words, lines, and dotted lines) my brain wants to really make sense of this somehow–feels very animated. With the examples with lines and words only, I find myself trying to read in a more traditional way

  2. I think there is a way to notate direction (chaotic as it may be!) Yes, the effects of silence, Leah has talked a lot about the intention of stillness in dance, it made me so aware of the silence and space between movements. Something to study for sure. It translates to architecture as well, the space between, the void having more impact than the form.
